1. Why did you choose to have your company RecyClass certified by Ecocert?
Why RecyClass? Because it is an opportunity to highlight our commitment to working with recycled materials, in an anti “plastic bashing” approach. Today, plastic is disparaged because of its image, and people tend to lump everything together, whereas we need to distinguish between different types of plastics, as there are several types. With PET, we have the opportunity to use one of the most recyclable plastics. The issue of plastic recyclability can be linked to a lack of information about the product. Consumers need to understand that PET can be recycled and renewed. If the recycling chain is in place and functioning, recycling becomes much easier.
Why Ecocert? We appreciated their commercial approach, as well as their availability and responsiveness throughout the audit. In addition, their fees are competitive.
2. What does this certification concretely guarantee for your packaging/products?
RecyClass certification guarantees a minimum rate of recycled material content. We have products certified at 25, 50 and even 100%. It also certifies the value chain, as it guarantees the origin of our materials, which are themselves RecyClass certified.
3. What major changes have you implemented to meet RecyClass requirements?
Everything was already in place internally. We were already certified FSSC 22000 and ISO 9001, so everything that was related to the audit - mass balance, traceability tests, quality management system, food safety - was already structured. We already had a fairly high level of requirements, so it did not require any significant additional steps.
4. How does this certification strengthen your circular economy strategy?
It provides us with a guarantee for sourcing RecyClass certified products, with the same level of requirements as those of our suppliers. It is also an important communication tool to highlight our commitment.
5.What would you say to a company that is hesitating to get certified?
Becoming certified can be a powerful management tool for both processes and communication. It is a standard that guarantees a minimum level of commitment and responsible sourcing, and it also helps to promote the company. And I would recommend doing it with Ecocert, because Ecocert has fully met our expectations.
