New IPCC report: CLIMATE Solutions - April 2022

What is the IPCC?

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was established in 1988 by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The objective was to share scientific data on climate change with policy makers.

What is the issue?

In the first part of the IPCC report (August 2021), UN climate experts estimated that the "mercury" would reach around 2030, ten years earlier than expected, the threshold of +1.5°C, the most optimistic target of the Paris Agreement. In the second part, the risks and effects of global warming were announced.

Solutions for CLIMATE

In this 3rd part, an in-depth assessment was made of how human behavior, choices and consumption can contribute to climate change mitigation. 278 authors from 65 different countries contributed to this report!

Here are the actions to be implemented according to the IPCC by sector of activity to reduce carbon emissions:

FOOD

• Eat more protein-rich plants, less meat but of better quality
• Choose certified organic products

AGRICULTURE

• Reduce synthetic fertilizers
• Diversify crops
• Combine trees, crops and livestock on the same plot

ENERGY

• Reduce the use of fossil fuels, use carbon capture and storage
• Use alternative fuels: hydrogen and sustainable biofuels

CITIES & URBAN AREAS

• Electrify buildings with low-emission energy
• Improve carbon absorption and storage (green spaces, ponds, trees)

INDUSTRY

• Focus on more sustainable materials, recycling and waste reduction
• Implement low or no greenhouse gas emission production processes

LAND USE

• Protect natural ecosystems to absorb carbon: forests, coastal wetlands, savannas and grasslands
• Choose organizations that contribute to carbon neutrality (Ecocert offers Climate Neutral certification !

TECHNOLOGY & INNOVATION

• Continue to invest to advance low-emission technological innovation (solar, wind)
