Job description
We are hiring an Evaluation Manager in our office in Somerset West. You will report directly to the General Manager. This position would also involve a few trips annually to parts of the region we manage (Southern- and East Africa). You will manage a team of 6 permanent auditors, an assistant and 30+ freelance auditors throughout the subregion and your main priority will be to ensure the efficiency, quality and reliability of the audits and other evaluation tasks.

Your tasks
You will be responsible to carry out the following duties:

  • Operational management:
  1. Planning and follow-up of the annual audit plan and planning of resources needed for the achievement of this plan
  2. Follow-up of report delays and objectives by auditors
  3. Creation, validation, implementation, and follow-up of the annual risk management plan
  4. Ensure that the planning of audits is done correctly and on time
  5. Technical support to auditors, especially for most complex or key audits 
     
  • Competency management: 
  1. Recruitment of the evaluation staff 
  2. Implementation and follow-up of the initial qualification process for auditors, including theoretical (trainings) and practical (observation & supervision) parts
  3. Creation, implementation, and follow-up of the annual training plan for auditors (audit methodology, procedures, tools, and regulations)
  4. Management auditors’ annual evaluations (includes on-site evaluations during audits)
  5. Decision on qualification for auditors 
  6. Implementation and follow-up of conditions of qualification and corrective actions decided following supervision and evaluation
  7. Creation, achievement, and follow-up of the annual supervision plan of auditors (choice of evaluators for supervised audits and quality report evaluation)
  8. Management of conflicts of interest for auditors
     
  • Quality management 
  1. Complaints management linked to evaluation activities: handling of the complaint then propositions and set-up of corrective actions
  2. Follow-up of internal and external audits: response and implementation of corrective actions
  3. Setting quality targets (deadlines, quality report, feedback from clients) in line with group goals
  4. Technical support to other subsidiaries
  5. Upon requests by other subsidiaries or HQ, implementation of specific evaluation tasks
     
  • Reporting
  1. Regular and relevant reporting to General Manager on key performance indicators, especially the progress of the audit plan
  2. Act as intermediary between HQ and auditors to support the implementation of tools and methods. Similarly, keep HQ informs of auditors’ challenges and issues, when relevant.

Profile

  • Education
BSc, BAgric or relevant tertiary qualification. Additional agricultural or management courses completed in would be beneficial.

  • Experience
At least one year management experience. Any experience in the agricultural- (especially organic/sustainable) and/or certification sector would be beneficial, in particular as an Auditor/Inspector. A keen interest in sustainability is required. 

  • Technical skills
High level of computer literacy – confident MS Office user, Excel in particular

  • Languages
Multilingual (English and Afrikaans) both spoken and written

Remuneration: Market related, dependent on experience and qualifications.
Type of contract: Permanent (6-month probation)
