Natural and organic home perfumes

Ecocert recommends its "Natural and organic home perfumes" standard.

The standard has been promoting products manufactured from substances of natural origin and/or from organic farming since 2005. It offers recognition of the expertise of environmentally friendly home perfumes manufacturers and greater transparency vis-à-vis consumers.

The basic principles of the Ecocert standard:

To protect our planet and its resources: using renewably sourced ingredients obtained using environmentally friendly methods, prohibiting synthetic petrochemical-based ingredients.
To protect and inform consumers through a transparency obligation: identifying ingredients sourced from organic farming; stating the origin, the presence of allergens, safety instructions.
To reduce unnecessary waste and discharges: instructions for use, encouraging the use of eco-refills and prohibiting non-recyclable plastics.

Requirements of the Ecocert standards:

The standard demands 100% ingredients of natural origin.
Two levels of requirement for organic ingredients:
- Organic home perfumes: at least 95% of the plant-based ingredients (excluding alcohol) must be sourced from organic farming, and at least 10% of all ingredients must be sourced from organic farming.
- Natural home perfumes: at least 50% of the plant-based ingredients (excluding alcohol) must be sourced from organic farming.
The use of alcohol not sourced from organic farming is not permitted.
