New COSMOS version

Version 2 of the COSMOS-standard was published.

The revision process, initiated late March this year, is the first since the COSMOS-standard came into force in 2010. Its objective was to address current developments and to streamline and simplify the certification process, whilst still ensuring the integrity and effectiveness of the COSMOS-standard.

We are pleased to share the main changes:

  • Simplifying the process for approving raw materials, including shortening the questionnaire and introducing a read-across procedure in case of no data for biodegradability and aquatoxicity;
  • Replacing ‘organic if available’ for the remaining 5% physically processed agro-ingredients (PPAI) with a positive list of ingredients that must be organic. The list will start with 23 ingredients (new Appendix VI);
  • Removing the minimum percentage for chemically processed agro-ingredients (CPAI) and replacing with a positive list (new Appendix VII). The list will start with alcohol;
  • Revising and updating the list of mineral origin ingredients (Appendix IV);
  • Revising and combining appendix V and VI to ensure a consistent approach to ‘other ingredients’ (new Appendix V);
  • Clarifying requirements for packaging;
  • Clarifying and widening the criteria for cleaning products to allow more effective products that are still environmentally sound;
  • Introducing COSMOS CERTIFIED signature for organic ingredients and COSMOS APPROVED for approved raw materials/ingredients;
  • Amending the labeling requirements to allow clearer identification of natural origin content on product labels to be more transparent for consumers.
  • Extending the deadline which specifies the implementation of the COSMOS-standard by the members/clients of the founding organizations. The new deadline is 31st December 2016.

The new version takes effect from the date of publication (Monday 21st October) and applies to all new products that are certified from 1st January 2014 onwards.

NSF/ANSI 305 standard certification

The NSF/ANSI 305 Personal Care Products Containing Organic Ingredients standard is a national American norm for cosmetic products containing organic ingredients

If you wish to be referrenced by some North American distributors, we offer in addition to the ECOCERT and/or COSMOS certification, the NSF / ANSI 305 certification.

This certification can be done on every product already certified according to ECOCERT or COSMOS, and consists in that case in a documentary checking and a delivery of a certificate for the concerned product(s).

Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)

ECOCERT Greenlife cosmetic service developed a new activity: verification and application of GMP. Coupling a GMP audit with the cosmetic audit will enable us to propose attractive prices.

ECOCERT Greenlife can audit subcontractors of mass-market retailing and certify them according to IFS HPC standard (International Featured Standards for Household and Personal Care products). This international private standard, set up by mass-market retailings, allows them to ensure the quality and safety of products made for their own brands and the conformity to their specifications.

This standard is aimed at all companies involved in the manufacture of private label cosmetics, natural and organic or conventional ones, and concerns the whole activity of the audited company.

With this standard, we offer you the possibility to access new markets, French or international ones, in private label cosmetics sector.

The IFS HPC is now available at the following link.
