Accreditation and Approval

A business regulated by the authorities

Certification is subject to supervision. Certification bodies are themselves audited by the relevant authorities and bodies, as part of the approval and accreditation process. In France, the French Accreditation Committee (Cofrac) is the designated body for the accreditation of certification bodies according to the ISO 17065 standard (applicable to product certifications only, formerly EN 45011), which requires independence, competence and impartiality. ECOCERT takes all the measures necessary to meet these requirements and ensure the reliability of its decisions.

United States

  • ECOCERT SA is accredited by the USDA (Agricultural Department) for the National Organic Program (NOP).


  • ECOCERT Japan Ltd. is accredited by the MAFF (Agricultural Department) for the Japanese Agricultural Standard (JAS).


In compliance with the accreditation requirements aiming at guaranteeing the impartiality of its work and decisions, ECOCERT top management defined and committed to a policy, and has set up impartiality committees. Committees supervise the conformity assessment activities according to the related schemes in each entity of the Group.
