The commodity chain description is an information summary the marketing manager must put together with the help of all the operators in the EFT commodity chain. It describes the commodity chain with total transparency, from the producer to the consumer.
The following information must be given to ECOCERT:
Regarding guarantees to producers
the project’s history, the desired and calculated impact of the approach;
the origin (country, region, supplier group);
the economic, social and cultural context of the beneficiary communities and organisations;
the allocation of the partnership fund; and
the nature and reach of the technical and commercial support.
Regarding the entire commodity chain
the contributors at each stage;
information relating to quality;
the characteristics of the products and/or services;
their production and processing methods;
the traceability procedures;
the breakdown of the prices and profit margins at each stage along the commodity chain, including the amount relating to transport and the average amount of the recommended retail price representing producer revenue;
diagram showing the share going to the producer company, the share going to the consumer country, and if relevant, the share going to the retailer.
