Ecocert has written a schedule of conditions that breaks down the principles of fair trade into objective standards. The EFT (Ecocert fair trade in the spirit of solidarity and responsibility) standards are available to operators who wish to enhance the value of their commitment in this field.
This approach responds to several objectives:
to set out the conditions for a true, independent third party inspection that is not concerned with volume, based on measurable criteria and appropriate control and inspection tools;
to guarantee consumer confidence in the long-term, through the professionalism of this inspection procedure and by providing transparent information;
to build on several decades of experience in this field;
to broaden the province of fair trade to a commodity chain vision (system-based approach).
This schedule of cs applies to the food-processing, cosmetic and textile.
It provides for guaranteed minimum prices, producer support and imposes strict good agricultural practices (an organic certification is required).
This schedule of conditions has been written in consultation with a group of professionals from the sector – producers, importers, retailers, consumer associations.
It conforms to the FINE Declaration and AFNOR Agreement AC X50-340. Ecocert has been a member of the PFCE (French Platform for Fair Trade) since October 2007.
